How does this process work?

  1. You may enroll with The Next Step by filling out an online form to receive leads to our database of employers upon release. As part of the application, you give permission for The Next Step and WOTC Solutions to have and use your information to help you find employment. The data is securely transmitted to us so that we know when to begin providing leads for you based upon your date of release.

  2. When you have been released, you will need to go to our website to activate your enrollment or have your case manager, probation or parole officer contact us in order to start receiving employer leads. Activation lets us know that you have been released and are able to start working employer leads. If any personal information has changed between the time you originally enrolled and your release, please update us at the time of activation.

  3. We review our national CoFFE! database, and match you up with three Felon-Friendly Employers (FFEs) based on geography and type of work or skills. We email these to the email address you have provided.

  4. We strongly recommend a face-to-face visit to the employer instead of a phone call -- this approach is much more likely to result in you being hired. You should have received WOTC cards at the time you enrolled that you can give to potential employers that explain the WOTC tax credit. These can be useful -- a $2,400 tax credit is a powerful incentive to hire you!

  5. You can request as many leads as needed until you are hired. Upon being offered a job (whether it is from our leads or found on your own) you must notify The Next Step within 72 hours. We use this information to improve our database, and we will also contact your employer to offer assistance in applying for the WOTC tax credit. (We get paid when an employer hires us to provide this assistance. This is the only way this whole system is funded, so it is a very important step!)

  6. If you are not hired, you must provide feedback to us on the employer leads we provided. These leads will not always be good -- we rely on a large variety of sources to populate the CoFFE! database, and some are less reliable than others.  When you provide feedback, we update the database so that the quality of the data is always improving.

  7. We repeat this process of providing leads (3 at a time) and updating the database with feedback until you find a job!

Do I have to pay for this?

No. The service of providing FFE leads is entirely free, both to you and to your residential facility. We make money only when your employer hires us to help them qualify for the WOTC tax credit. If they don't hire us, no problem. We will still continue to provide leads to you and your facility when needed.

Can you guarantee me a job?

No. The service of providing employer leads is entirely free, both to you and to the ODRC. We make money only when your employer hires us to help them with the WOTC tax credit. If they don't hire us, no problem. We will still continue to provide leads to you as needed
